Boobs
It is only fitting that my first blog of the year is about booobs! I don't think we realize how much life is packed into a few months. I have missed writing, and I have missed you reading my writing. Like anything important to us, we have to make the time. So let's get into it.
If you have read any of my blog posts you know I don't hold much back. I share so you can learn from my mistakes and I continue to heal from them, it's that simple.
So why boobs? I was in the car with Sean today and I was sharing some random thoughts that popped into my mind. We know how much our significant others love that, ha! For most women as we are young girls we think about getting boobs, when will they come in, how big will they be, etc... I remember seeing movies as a preteen with girls my age stuffing their bras with toilet paper, it was a whole to do. As we enter into our teens we are developing, some a lot more than others, and everyone is noticing. They then become sexualized and desired and everyone notices. As some of us have children they become a source of nourishment and they begin to change in shape and some of us change the way we once felt about them. As we approach our 40s we are reminded to get our mammograms, and they continue to change shape. Some of us buy better bras to support the girls, we may throw some lace in there to make them feel sexy and some of us wear more sports bras than ever for comfort and to conceal them a bit. Wherever you land in all of this, you have a relationship with your boobs if you realize it or not.
Two years ago I was getting my annual mammogram and was told I needed to come back as they saw some areas they needed to take another look at. Talk about a scary conversation. I went back and thankfully it was just the density in my breasts that was starting to change as a 50-year-old woman. Again, more changes. I thanked Jesus and was so relieved.. So many of us are not so lucky. I can think of two friends right now who got the opposite news and are dealing with their own cancer journey. It all started with the boobs.
Last week I was getting my annual "woman" checkup and the Dr. was doing the breast exam by hand. She immediately hit a spot on my left breast close to my armpit that didn't feel right. She asked if this was new and I said yes, I had not felt it before. She said you need to have this looked at soon. I got up and went to the appointment desk and they scheduled an ultrasound and a mammogram of the left breast. I go to that appointment on Thursday. The reason I am sharing is not for sympathy but your prayers are more than welcome.. I am sharing because some of you are hesitating, scared, and reluctant to make that appointment. Early detection is the key and we must be vigilant in taking care of the girls.
Whatever stage in life you are in, they are yours! The good, the bad and the ugly. Take care of them!
Sisters, if you are battling right now, I pray for you! You are not alone.
Be BOLD! Make that appointment.
